A rejected code almost never means the code is dead. Six causes account for nearly every failure, and five of them are fixable in under a minute.
1 · An excluded item in the cart
The most common cause by a wide margin. Percentage codes carry brand or category exclusion lists, and most checkouts reject the entire cart rather than skipping the excluded item. Remove the excluded product, apply the code to the rest, and buy that item in a separate order.
2 · Region mismatch
Codes are frequently bound to the delivery country set on your account. Change the delivery country and the same code stops validating. Set the country first, then apply the code.
3 · The account is not signed in
Member-only codes validate against the account, not the cart. Signing in after entering the code usually clears the field.
4 · The order minimum is calculated after discounts
A "$15 off $75" code checks the subtotal after any other reduction, not the list-price total. A cart that reads $78 before a sale reduction may be $68 when the code is checked.
5 · One use per account, already used
First-order and welcome codes bind to the account permanently. A second attempt on the same account fails silently, with the same generic message as an expired code.
6 · The code has genuinely expired
The only unfixable case. This is why every code on Promio carries the date it was last verified — if that date is old, try the next code in the list rather than retyping this one.
