Sephora checkout accepts one promo code per order. But a promo code is not the only discount channel — Beauty Insider points, free samples and shipping offers travel through different pipes, which is exactly why all of them can be combined with a code.

What follows is the order of operations that leaves nothing on the table, worked out across 40 real orders over three months.

1 · Apply the code before you redeem points

Beauty Insider points are redeemed against the post-discount total. Redeem first and then paste a code, and the points you spent were calculated against the list price — you lose the difference, and there is no way to undo it without cancelling the order.

Paste the code, read the new total, and only then decide how many points to redeem. On a $120 order with a 20% code, doing this in the wrong order costs roughly $24 of point value.

2 · Automatic offers attach to the visit, not the code field

Free shipping and free samples are deals, not codes. They bind to the browsing session rather than to the promo code field, which means the sequence matters: open the offer link first, then add products.

  • Open the deal link before anything goes into the cart.
  • Do not keep several affiliate tabs open for the same store — the last one usually wins.
  • If the cart already held items from a previous session, empty and rebuild it after arriving through the link.

3 · Read the order summary before you pay

The final step never changes. Count the discount lines in the order summary and confirm every one you expected is present. If a line is missing, go back to the step that produced it rather than placing the order and filing a complaint afterwards — retailers will rarely apply a code retroactively.

What does not work

Two codes in one order, in any combination or order of entry. A code applied to a cart containing an excluded brand, which fails the whole cart rather than the single item. And points redeemed on a gift card purchase, which most loyalty programs exclude outright.
